Let’s party with the Oregon Environmental Council and friends as we release our Low Carbon Beer: Bike Crush Saison! We’ll have BUNK Sandwiches and loads of Low Carbon Beer to celebrate Environmental Sustainability 1 Pint at a Time!
On May 25th, we crushed 300 lbs of Salmon-Safe malt by bike! That’s right, we built a Bike Powered malt mill and got a great group of volunteers to help us crush it all up. Now we brew and play the waiting game.
ABOUT THE BEER:
Bike Crush Saison is brewed with Salmon-Safe Athena Pilsner malt from Mainstem Malt, local honey from Bee Local, Salmon-Safe Mt. Hood and Sterling hops from Crosby Hop Farm and Organic Yeast from Imperial Yeast. All ingredients grown within 225 miles of Portland.
In brewing Bike Crush Saison, we adjusted nearly every part of the brewing process in order to minimize the beer’s carbon footprint as much as possible. By utilizing human bike power, open and uncontrolled fermentation practices and Local, Salmon-Safe and Organic ingredients we can celebrate the environment 1 pint at a time! The beer will be available by the glass and growler from our Southeast Portland Taproom and will be delivered by bike to wholesale accounts within 1 mile of the brewery!
ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP:
Bike Crush Saison is a collaboration between Baerlic Brewing Company and the Emerging Leaders Board of the Oregon Environmental Council with help from our friends at Mainstem Malt, Crosby Hop Farm, Bee Local, Imperial Yeast and See/Saw. This collaboration focuses on reducing the energy intensity in beer making, taking advantage of regional and Salmon-Safe ingredients, and celebrating community, diversity and protecting the environment 1 pint at a time!
The Emerging Leaders Board is an Under-40 advisory board to the Oregon Environmental Council. The board is made up of entrepreneurs, strategists, community leaders and visionaries who work to support the mission of OEC to advance innovative, collaborative and just solutions to Oregon’s environmental challenges for today and future generations.
Since 2015, the Emerging Leaders Board Low Carbon Beer Challenge has tasked local breweries to design and brew a beer with as little carbon footprint as possible. Past partners have included Migration Brewing Company and Hopworks Urban Brewery. Proceeds from Bike Crush Saison will benefit OEC’s work to further promote clean water and Salmon-Safe ingredients.
