Lions and Tigers and Beers, oh my!

Portland Beer Week is teaming up with the Oregon Zoo on their largest Kickoff Party to beer week ever, on Thursday, June 7th from 4-9pm. This all-ages celebration on the zoo’s amphitheater lawn will feature more than 30 beers and ciders from the Pacific Northwest, lawn games, local food carts and restaurants, axe throwing, DJs, live photo booth and, yes, lots of animals and exciting attractions.

Tickets are now on sale for $34.95 at the zoo’s website, each ticket is a full admission to the Zoo grounds and exhibits plus a collectible pint glass and four drink tickets, each ticket worth a 7oz pour. Kids and designated drivers get into the zoo at regular ticket prices. Carousel and train rides are available for an additional fee.

Portland Beer Week is presented by PSU’s The Business of Craft Beer, Loyal Legion beer hall and GrowlerWerks. Portland Beer Week is an eleven-day, city-wide celebration of craft beer in the greatest beer city on earth.

Portland Beer Week and the Oregon Zoo invite you to walk with the elephants, swing with the chimps and dive with the penguins, all while enjoying some of the best craft beers and ciders around. Tunes will be provided by DJ Nine Inch Nilina, performances by AWOL troop, live meet-and-greets with animals provided by the zoo and amazing food from Hotlips Pizza, Foster Burger, Pok Pok, Ruby Jewel Ice Cream and much more.

The Oregon Zoo encourages visitors to take public transport to the zoo, which is located five minutes from downtown Portland, and is accessible by MAX light rail line. Call TriMet Customer Service, 503-238-RIDE (7433), or visit trimet.org for fare and route information.

About PSU’s Business of Craft Brewing Certificate:

Our fully online certificate program focuses on the business side of brewing and is ideal for home brewers looking to reach larger audiences, as well as industry professionals who want to advance their careers. While brewing is emphasized, distillery and cidery business models are also included. By the end of the program, each student has an investor-ready business plan, and many of our students have now gone on to open their own craft beverage businesses. There are no prerequisites to get in, and there’s no application – students just sign up when they’re ready. Anyone interested can start as early as this summer with the Craft Beverage Distribution elective, or fall term with the core courses. For more information or to register, check out our course schedule page.

About GrowlerWerks:

If you’re like us, many of your favorite microbrews aren’t sold in bottles. GrowlerWerks was created by local Portlanders who love craft beer. We’ve drawn on a combined 47 years of engineering and product-design experience to make a better way to store beer. With a GrowlerWerks growler your beer will always taste exactly how the brewmaster intended. Email us to find out more at info@growlerwerks.com.

About Loyal Legion:

Portland, Oregon has more breweries per capita than any other city in the world, and yet it does not have a signature beer hall to celebrate the tremendous tradition of Oregon Craft Brewing.  The craft brewing movement may have officially started in a neighboring state but it is universally acknowledged that Oregon redefined the craft brewing movement and established itself as the capital of American brewing since the late 1980s.  The Loyal Legion’s sole purpose is to celebrate the Oregon Craft Brewing tradition.

About Portland Beer Week:

Portland Beer Week is eleven days of fun, educational, eye and palate opening eating and drinking events in the greatest beer city on earth. More than just a beer festival, Portland Beer Week is a celebration of craft beer culture and all of its tangents from food pairings to beer ice cream, artwork and design, film and science. Though our namesake is for the city of Portland, Oregon, we are not exclusive to only local brands and companies, we wish to bring the best of the beer world to Portland. Our goals are to showcase the world of beer in the greatest beer city on earth from brewer’s dinners, to tastings, seminars, festivals and games. Our grass roots organization was founded by beer journalists, taproom and bottle shop owners, craft beer entrepreneurs and brewery marketing experts in an effort to expand beer education and promote our city.
